Made in Leeds – Our Top 5 Producers and DJs to Come Out of Leeds

Leeds has one of the best party cultures in the UK, if not the world. This doesn’t just stem from nowhere, it’s the DJs and producers that originated and formed in Leeds that resonates this culture.

Here our list of the most notable DJs and producers to come out of Leeds…


Leeds originated group, Nightmares on Wax has been well recognised on the Electronic, Dub and Acid house scene for decades now. After releasing their first album in 1991 (A World of Science). George Evelyn (Nightmares on Wax) collaborated with various instrumentalists, rappers and vocalists which allowed them to act more as a band than just a DJ set. This has paved the way for the unique sound that Nightmares on Wax is known for.




Final Credits has been a Leeds anthem since its creation in 2016.  The man behind the 2016 Mixmag song of the year (Final Credits) is the Leeds born Midland. The artist is known for much more than just this song. Now he is one of the biggest DJs in the UK and has received recognition and plaudit from all over the music scene.  In 2017, his recorded Fabriclive 94 finished number one in Mixmag’s top compilation of the year and he also won the BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix of the Year.




Leeds born Woolford bought his first turntable when he was 12. According to the List, his birth parents were an Annie Lennox impersonator and a jazz drummer.. By 21, he produced his first record alongside DJ Tony Senghore and has never looked back since. Woolford has established himself in the British house and techno scene for over a decade now and is now one of the figureheads. Under various alias including Special Request, Paul Woolford has experimented with various different sounds and genres.




Ben UFO remains one of the only DJs in the UK to have such a present in the music industry without producing. His reputable status is based on his skills as a selector and mixer, which is extremely unique. Ben UFO mixes a range of genres including; house, garage and grime. In 2007, Ben UFO, Pearson Sound and Pangea (all Leeds University Students) created Hessle Audio label during their time at University of Leeds. What sets Ben UFO apart is his crate digging ability by which he mixes old tracks from previous decades with new undiscovered tracks.




Leeds based DJ, Ralph Lawson played the first ever record at Back to Basics and has had a residency at the club for over 19 years. As well as DJing, Lawson has his own record label 2020Vision, which has gone from strength to strength. Nominated for Best British DJ and Best label (for 2020 Vision) by DJ magazine. Ralph’s style has changed throughout the decades but has always sat somewhere between the holy trinity of house, techno and funk. This summer, Ralph will be curating Inner City Electronic once again this summer, a brand new inner-city festival in Leeds…

inner city electronic 2019 is on Saturday 1st June and includes Artists playing at eleven different venues across the city.
