All You Want(s) To Know About Hannah

Hannah Wants has come to Leeds many a time over the years and this year she is gracing the Mill once more headlining our show to bring our 2017 to a close. Ahead of this huge night, we thought we’d grab all we could to give you a run-down of how Hannah got what she Wanted, and some highlight shows along the way.

To cover the basics, Hannah’s real name is Hannah Alicia Smith; she came up with the name Wants by scanning through a dictionary in the W section. The 31-year-old is from Birmingham and has a degree in Sports Studies from Wolverhampton University.

Hannah taught herself how to DJ after she got some vinyl decks for her 16th birthday. Unfortunately, all her equipment and records were stolen, so she had to start again, where she used CDJ’s rather than the vinyl she’d learnt on.

Did you know that before giving into the music industry full time, Hannah had a strong career as a professional footballer? No, neither did I! But she played as part of the England ladies team for a decade before retiring to music when she was 23.

Every two months, Hannah releases a mixtape full of her favourite tracks on Soundcloud, available to download for free. You can find them here.

2010 was when Hannah really started making waves when she spent the summer in Ibiza. After winning some competitions, she played a number of shows there, including an unexpected headline show at Es Paradis.

From there she’s only been getting bigger. 2015 was a big year for Hannah as she landed a residency at BBC Radio 1, won a number of awards and launched her self-titled brand ‘What Hannah Wants’. She personally held competitions looking for new talent, the winners of which were lucky enough to join Hannah on her UK tour.

To get you buzzing up for her return at the end of the year, here are some of our favourite Hannah Wants moments:
